On Tuesday, Xiao Han and I went to ACS Barker to catch our juniors in action. They were going there for their first technical run before the SYF. We reached there at around 3.30pm and found out that we were too early. The run was due to start at 5pm! We discovered this piece of news after successfully finding the door into the theatre. There were so many doors, it took awhile. And we had to climb up and down flights of stairs too. After PE on monday, I can barely walk.
So we had lots of time to while away. We decided to make posters for our juniors as a surprise and we went to Popular, in ACS(B), to buy paper. Being smart and sharp, I spotted 2 rolls of used vandguard sheets and one roll of white mahjong paper lying in the corner. And so I asked this lady at the counter if she still needed those paper and whether she intended to sell them after all they don't look very appealing and new to me. In other words, I was telling her that she can give them to me for free. And she did. LOL. Who says there's no such thing as free goods, huh Ms Lee?
Yeah so we got the paper and Xiao Han has 2 gigantic markers in green and black. When I say gigantic, I mean it. He's campaigning for council and those are just one of the many tools he carries around with him. So made 3 posters in all and I even attempted to draw the EL logo. I think I still have the knack of it after all these years. Anyway, we ate at the canteen too. And all the stalls have installed this machine that enables the students to make payment vis Ez-link and we were mismerised by the system for a while. HAHA.
We spent the rest of the waiting time in the theatre, I forgot the name for it. It wasn't our first time there. We were there 2 years ago and everything seems the same as I remembered it as. The lights, the curtains, the changing rooms, the seats. Only the atmosphere was different. After all 2 years ago, I was taking part in SYF. As I stood in the middle of the stage, soaking in the atmosphere, SYF 2005 seemed to replay in my mind's eye. And I could almost see the silhouettes of Mrs Kan and Ms Ek in the audience as I acted as the Auntie. It felt so real.
If there ever was one thing that is a constant in my life, I think it's the prescence of drama. Ever since primary one I have been exposed to drama and the theatre. They make up my life. I don't know where I will be without them. In a sense, my life revolved around drama. They say that only change is a constant in today's world, but drama has been a constant for me and I am glad that it is my constant. And I do hope that it will remain a constant in my life. Perhaps I will never really choose it as a career but I am certain that this love and passion for drama will remain. When I recite a poem or prose, back in primary school. I feel like I am a different person. When I act, I can feel myself looking from the outside. This magical feeling is hard to comprehand, even harder to describe.
It's been 2 years since I left RV EL. And my, 2 years seem like a long time when all the teachers in charge are different and you don't know half your juniors. But I'm glad I still know the secondary 3 and 4 people. Dorothy has become unbearably thin and I hear that she is anorexic, poor girl, I wonder if it's from all the stress. Olivia is still Olivia. HAHA. Some people just don't change but it's okay, I love the way she is. I didn't have as much time to talk to them as I would have liked but meeting them all again and seeing that they are happy and well was a great comfort. RV EL is family and will always be. Although I may not even know a single one of them in 2 years time, I know I belong.
This year's play is centred around a girl named Grace (not Water LOL), played by Olivia. She has her family consisting of a hen packed mother, Farhanah (who is damn blur in character and in person), a cute brother and a father (who loves to yell). Basically, this whole play consists of tons of characters and people. Everyone is on stage all at once sometimes. But I must giev credit to the amazing blocking work. However, the down side is the lack of character development. When you have so many characters on stage and limited time, most of the characters lack depth and substance and it makes the play forgettable. One main weakness I feel was that the play lacks a central theme. At the end of the day, you still don't get what the point of the play was. And the backstage crew is an utter disgrace. Wait till Xiu Hui finds out about this. HAHA. They were noisy, confused and slow. This year's crew is an all girls team and that sucks. They laundered the help of the NCC boys to bump in and out though, smart move. But still the BS crew lacks practise and skill. I am disappointed in them through and through.
I hate to say this but if EL is lucky, they will get a Silver, at most. I think they themselves are more or less aware of where they stand. The standard of the play is hardly competition standard. Now, to the most pertinent question: will EL be forced to disband?
I hope not, but
